The day I order the chamber is just around the corner, and I am overflowing with gratitude and excitement. Everyone who has donated their time, talent, and money to this cause is making an investment in me. I do not take that investment lightly. I will work myself to the bone to get the biggest return on your investment possible.

As the treatments remake me neurologically, I will remake myself physically. My recovery will serve as a clear example of the extraordinary potential of hyperbarics, and I will use it to advocate for the awareness, affordability, and accessibility of the treatment. That may sound grandiose, but this entire operation seemed grandiose a few months ago, and together we have made this happen.

My sincerest thanks to KFDM 6 News for their excellent piece on our fund raising efforts. I have never been more confident that this thing that seemed like a pipe dream a few months ago will happen very soon. This has been the most educational, transformational, and rewarding few months of my life and the outpouring of community support has made it mean exponentially more. Richard has Cerebral Palsy and is trying to raise money to buy a hyperbaric chamber.

What is a hyperbaric chamber you ask?

Without getting too medical on you, hyperbaric oxygen is a treatment that medical experts agree will allow Richard to throw away his crutches in 8 to 12 months. THROW HIS CRUTCHES AWAY! So, please come out see a great rock show, have some drinks, and help change someone’s life. If that isn’t enough for you there will be a raffle giving you the chance to win prizes all night long everything from food to tattoos from TattooMania!

Better Treatment For Less Money

Great news! I found a company called Healing Dives that offers a larger and less expensive chamber that will deliver more effective treatment than the chamber offered by Oxyhealth. The Healing Dives Maxi model will deliver the exact same level of treatment I was getting from Dr. Sprague’s clinic, but with the convenience of home use for $4000 less than the smaller inferior chamber offered by Oxyhealth.

What does this mean for you? Well, it means every dollar you donate will go even further in getting to our goal. The chain of events looks like this:

1. You get better value for your generous donation.

2. I get higher quality treatment.

3. My complete recovery comes even sooner than expected.

4. My complete recovery is held up as an example of what hyperbarics can do as we campaign to spread awareness of and access to Hyperbarics to the millions it can effectively treat.

Becoming A Reality

It appears that my substitute teaching job is becoming more consistent. The steady income is an enormous help that puts the hyperbaric chamber that much closer to becoming a reality. If this evolves into regular work I will be able to take out a loan, pay the note, and do fund raising on a part-time basis as my recovery happens.

In other news, Lamar University’s University Press wrote a very complimentary feature on the fund raiser Saturday and the entire campaign.

A few facts got lost in translation in the article, I understand it’s a very complicated, and even exotic issue, here’s what everyone needs to know.

My Cerebral Palsy was caused by a stroke at birth.
Cerebral Palsy is a neurological problem.
Neurological problems have neurological solutions.
Hyperbarics works by delivering pressurized oxygen into the system. As a result blood capillaries get larger allowing pure oxygen to reach parts of the body and brain it cannot otherwise reach. In my case, damaged areas of my brain are revitalized, allowing for greater function.
Medical experts agree that within 8-12 months of daily hyperbaric treatment I will be able to walk interdependently.

I’ll be honest, when this thing started I was primarily focused on my own recovery. That seems like ages ago. This has now grown into a worldwide campaign that aims to take a stand for the decency, worth, and quality of life of all people with brain injuries. We will start with my recovery, but we will use that monumental happening to champion the use of hyperbaric medicine on an array of afflictions.

Game Day

Today is Saturday, October 3. Tonight is my first major fundraiser. I’m hoping to take a big bite out of the seventeen grand I need to buy the chamber.
